Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.

AutoCAD is used by many businesses, including architecture and engineering firms, which use it to create and edit drawings.

It is also used for industrial design, computer-aided drafting (CAD), for the preparation of blueprints and for Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), which is based on 3D modeling, and can use the output from the 3D modeling software as input into other CAD software for further analysis.

AutoCAD was first introduced in December 1982. Prior to AutoCAD, AutoDesk’s initial offerings included Draftsight and Drawing AutoCAD, both of which became part of AutoCAD 2. AutoCAD 1.0 was released in October 1984, and saw continued development for the next three years. During this time, the first windows-based version, AutoCAD 2.5, was released in 1987. In 1991, the first Macintosh-based version, AutoCAD 2.5, was released. The first version of AutoCAD for the Internet, AutoCAD Internet Edition, was released in October 1999. AutoCAD 2000, the first version that runs on Windows XP, was released in November 2000.

Various other versions were released during the following three years, including a series of updates that coincided with the release of new versions of AutoCAD.

There are four main features of AutoCAD:

Drawing features include drawing, working with layers, zooming and panning.

Zooming and panning: The user can zoom into the drawing or the picture window and drag the view around. There are six presets (“aspect ratios”) for what the proportions of the drawing are compared to the dimensions of the display. The user can use the Zoom toolbar to zoom in and out, or to resize and move the viewport around. In the drawing, the user can select all or parts of a drawing by clicking on the toolbar with the left mouse button. This selection is not lost when the user clicks off the drawing. The mouse cursor changes to a grabber to indicate that the selection is being changed. The user can deselect a selection by clicking on the toolbar, clicking on the background, or clicking off the screen.

CADML – CAD markup language – CADML is the first of the 2D schemas supported by AutoCAD for 2D design, geometric entities. The second is ACIS. CADML was introduced in AutoCAD version 3, and has been a part of AutoCAD ever since, although it is currently available as an add-on product, the DraftSight extension for AutoCAD. CADML allows defining elements that may be viewed in the CAD viewer (DXF or DWG), such as bearings, sloped and flat planes, angles, and ellipses, as well as supporting CAD drawing data to the point where the design may be scaled and manipulated. CADML and ACIS are supported by AutoCAD, MicroStation, MicroStation Viewer, Revit and ArchiCAD.
Accessing AutoCAD documents through a web browser – DraftSight.
Using an external code editor – DevExpress.
Native.NET API –
Visual LISP API – A third-party AutoCAD add-on product by Autodesk.
AutoCAD Architecture – First AutoCAD add-on product which introduced new functionality (Level of Detail, 3D assembly, UAV, FEM…) Autodesk Architecture was later acquired by Autodesk in 2012.
AutoCAD Electrical – First AutoCAD add-on product which integrated electrical design software capabilities Autodesk Electrical was later acquired by Autodesk in 2012.
AutoCAD Architecture – Second AutoCAD add-on product which integrated additional design and engineering tools Autodesk Architecture was later acquired by Autodesk in 2012.

Autodesk offers two methods for the developer to work with its API. These are ObjectARX and COM. ObjectARX is a C++ class library, which was also the base for the AutoLISP, Visual LISP and VBA Interfaces, while COM is available for all languages supported by AutoCAD, the development of which is free for the developer. Both ObjectARX and COM have their own strengths and limitations.

While the ObjectARX interface is well documented, it requires a
